Family activities at Dove CottageFamily Activities at Dove Cottage

Our next family activities will be available:

Summer holidays
Monday 19 July - Sunday 5 September

Beginning on Monday 19th July the Foyle Room, opposite Dove Cottage will be running the following drop-in workshops between 2 and 5pm weekday afternoons. All the workshops take their inspiration from our special exhibition Savage Grandeur on show in the Wordsworth Museum.

Monday: Art

Find out how artists of the past were inspired by the Lake District landscapes and then create your own.

Tuesday: Craft
Learn about the craft of making rag rugs, like those in Dove Cottage and then try out the techniques for yourself.

Wednesday: Make your own sketchbook
Artists in the past often made their own sketchbooks to take with them into the landscape, to make on the spot drawings of the places they visited. Make one for yourself and then take it out to make a sketch.

Thursday: Printing
Explore the techniques and skills used in woodblock printing and then see how it was done. Try out one of our printing activities to make your own image.

Friday: Writing
Wordsworth used the Lake District landscape as inspiration for some of his greatest poetry. Explore how he did it, and then have a go at creating some modern Lake District poetry.

Family Activity Room open daily, 10am - 5pm, closed for lunch 12noon - 2pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
